Focusing on Healthy Eating

This month is a great time to ADD some healthy foods to your diet!  When we think about eating healthier sometimes it can seem overwhelming.  A great way to start is to add healthier foods to your day. Sometimes eliminating foods can see overwhelming (although very beneficial) so focusing on adding can be easier.

One of the best things to add to a meal would be a handful of dark green leafy vegetables (spinach, kale, collard greens, etc.).  For breakfast you could add this to a smoothie or a handful to your scrambled eggs.  For lunch or dinner you can add a side salad with these greens.  You can add cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers or any other veggie easily to your salad too! Leafy greens are packed with amazing nutrients!

Fresh fruit is another easy thing to add in the summer.  Since many fruits are in fact in season they are easier to get and even more nutritious!  Eating fruit is a great way to keep hydrated on those hot summer days!

Nuts are a great addition to any snack throughout your day as well.  Raw is best if you can!  Having a high protein snack will leave you feeling more satisfied!  Make sure to chew them well for easier digestion.

And, as always, if you are able to shop locally (farmers markets) and shop organic that is even better for you!  Do what you can and don’t stress about it!  Eating should be enjoyable!
